May at Torbay Scrapstore: Bloomin’ Marvellous
The bluebells are out, the sun is almost thinking about staying and we’ve traded the April showers for a May schedule that’s bursting with colour. Whether you want to learn a brand-new skill or finally fix that hole in your favourite jumper, we’ve got a seat at the table with your name on it.
Check out the flyers for the full schedule, but here’s a look at what’s coming up:
The Main Event: General Workshops & Creative Capers
Our Scrap book Club is back on the 12th for those of you with piles of memories just waiting for a creative home. Speaking of things needing a bit of love, we’re hosting a special Mend it May – Knitwear Repair session that same afternoon—it’s completely free, so bring that cardi with the snag and let’s give it some TLC.
If you’re looking to adorn yourself or your home, come and try Bohemian Tassels, Earring making or Beaded Jewellery making. For those who prefer the feel of the earth (or fabric) in their hands, we have Clay pinch pots, Slow stitch Square and a Patchwork club focusing on the calming art of English Paper Piecing.
Feeling ambitious? The talented team from Sea View Studios are back to help you master Sewing machine skills (including the dreaded zip!) or the lovely art of Journal Book making. We’re also getting whimsical with Paper Flower making and an Enchanting Evening of Book Folding—where you’ll turn an old book into a toadstool house. And for the “finishers” among us, don’t miss the Make it Miniature catch up to finally tick those tiny potting sheds or spooky shelves off your list!
Make & Mingle: For the 65+
Our Make & Mingle sessions are the best excuse to get out of the house and have a proper chinwag. These sessions are completely free for anyone aged 65 or over. It’s a wonderfully welcoming space to share a laugh and a tea while getting stuck into something new.
This month, we’re kicking things off with Bohemian Tassels and Paper flower making. We’ll also be crafting Beaded Angels, making Earring making, and getting stuck into a Button Wreath. We’ll wrap up the month with some clever Optical Illusion cards. Crafting is calling! It would be rude not to answer.
The Important Bits
Most of our general workshops include barista coffee and cake, which we all know is the real fuel behind any great masterpiece.
Booking is essential—give us a tinkle on 01803 392436 or pop in and see us at 6 Fore Street, St Marychurch, to secure your spot.

Sewing Machine Skills Workshop – Beginners
Wednesday, May 20th, 2026 | 7pm – 9pm
Ready to stop falling out with your sewing machine? Whether you’re a total novice or someone who’s been “improving” for years (we’ve all been there), this hands-on workshop is all about building your confidence without the tantrum. The lovely team from Sea View Studios will show you how to set up for success—covering everything from basic stitches and tricky settings to troubleshooting those “why is it doing that?” moments.
Once you’ve tamed the beast, we’ll move on to the big one: inserting a zip. We’ll show you how to do it with ease as you whip up a handy zipped pouch from start to finish. You’ll leave with a completed project and the brave face needed to tackle more sewing at home!
The Nitty Gritty:
What to bring: If you’re bringing your own machine, please pack your zipper foot, a pair of fabric scissors and pins if you have them.
What we provide: We’ve got the zips, thread and gorgeous fabric all ready for you.
Price: £28 per person.
