July at Torbay Scrapstore: Summer Sunshine & Crafty Secrets
Phew! If you thought June was a bit too hot to handle, we’ve got just the tonic. While the British summer does its best impression of the Sahara outside, we are keeping things beautifully cool, calm and incredibly creative inside the scrapstore! We’ve traded the suncream for a fresh July schedule that is absolutely bursting with colour, texture and clever ways to reuse materials. Whether you want to escape the midday glare, master a tricky knot or finally finish off that miniature project you started, we have a seat at the table (and a cold drink or a hot brew!) with your name on it.
Check out the full flyers further down for dates and details, but here is a little look at what is coming up:
The Main Event: General Workshops & Creative Capers
Our popular Scrap book Club is back for those of you with piles of ticket stubs and photos just waiting for a creative home. Speaking of things that make you smile, we are hosting a gorgeous Create & Connect – Wild Woman brooch session where you can sew and embroider your very own unique statement piece.
Have you been working on a mini masterpiece? Our Make it miniature – Catch up session is the perfect excuse to come along and finish off your Potting shed, Sweet shop, Haberdashery or Spooky shelf. If you fancy a quick and useful bit of sewing, come along to our Create & Connect – create a beautiful felt tea bag book mark workshop.
Want to spruce up your style? Try your hand at traditional Indian Block Printing to create a beautiful hand-printed tote bag. For the fabric lovers, our therapeutic Patchwork club returns with English Paper Piecing, alongside our calming Slow stitch session where you can create fabric pictures using reclaimed scraps.
We are also getting properly tied up in knots this month with two fantastic Macrame workshops—choose the beginner session to make a lovely bookmark or try the advanced beginner class to create a stunning wall hanging. If you want something sparkly, don’t miss our Mosaic – Seahorse evening where you can craft a colourful mosaic using glass, tiles or ceramics. Finally, round off the month with a classic: our beginner-friendly Create & Connect – Button Wreath workshop.
Make & Mingle: For the 65+
Our Make & Mingle sessions are the absolute best excuse to get out of the house, meet new friends and have a proper chinwag in a supportive, uplifting space. These sessions are completely free for anyone aged 65 or over, including a lovely cup of tea and a laugh while getting stuck into something new.
We are kicking off July with a lovely Felt Tea bag book mark session, followed quickly by custom Name tags and a fun afternoon of Badge Designing.
Later in the month, we will be trying our hand at Glass Painting to catch that gorgeous summer light, before diving into the zero-sewing fabric art form of Japanese Kinusaiga. Finally, we will be channelling our inner florist to craft bright, beautiful Flower Making hydrangeas. Crafting is calling! It would be rude not to answer.
The Important Bits
Most of our general workshops include barista coffee and cake, which we all know is the real fuel behind any great masterpiece. All resources are provided unless stated otherwise.
