August at Torbay Scrapstore: Sunshine, Sea View Studios & Scrapbooking Secrets

Hello August! Just when you thought the summer couldn’t get any brighter, we’re cranking up the creative dial inside the scrapstore. While everyone else is stuck in traffic heading to the beach, we’ve the ultimate cool & crafty sanctuary right here, waiting just for you. This month, we’re channeling seaside vibes, beautiful textures and plenty of glitter to make your summer properly sparkle. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned crafter looking to level up your skills, there’s a comfy chair, a friendly chat and a delicious brew with your name on it.

The Important Bits

Most of our general workshops include a delicious barista coffee and a slice of cake, because let’s face it—you can’t construct a masterpiece on an empty stomach! All resources are fully provided unless we say otherwise.

Spaces are limited and they do get snapped up incredibly fast. Give us a tinkle on 01803 392436, visit our website at www.torbayscrapstore.co.uk or pop in and see us at 6 Fore Street, St Marychurch, Torquay (TQ1 4NE) to reserve your spot at the table. Crafting is calling!

Scroll down to see the full flyers for dates and times, but here is a cheeky sneak peek at what we’ve got lined up for August:

The Main Event: General Workshops & Creative Capers

We are kicking off the month with something delightfully quirky. Come along to our beginner-friendly Create & Connect session and craft your very own cute pocket scrap monsters—perfect for keeping the kids entertained or just making yourself smile.

Speaking of keeping memories alive, our beloved Scrapbook Club is back. Bring along a project you’ve already started or kick off a brand new one with our huge stash of materials. If you’re a complete novice, you can even grab a handy starter kit!

Ready to level up your crafting game? We are incredibly excited to host Sea View Studios for a brilliant evening workshop. You will master the art of machine-stitched buttonholes before putting your new-found skills to the test creating a stylish cushion cover to take home.

For the jewellery lovers, we have a fascinating Jewellery making session where you will learn how to roll beautiful beads out of simple scrap paper. If fabric is more your thing, you can dive into our therapeutic Slow stitch afternoon to create hand-stitched pictures from reclaimed scraps, or join our popular Patchwork club to learn the calming art of English Paper Piecing. You can also turn those odds and ends into beautiful, everlasting Fabric flowers later in the month.

To wrap up the August sunshine, we are getting properly creative with the elements. Come and have fun decorating and glittering up some gorgeous shells in our late-August Create & Connect session. Finally, don’t miss our stunning Mosaic – Dragonfly evening, where you can piece together a colourful masterpiece using glass, tiles and ceramics.

Make & Mingle: For the 65+

Our Make & Mingle sessions are the absolute finest excuse to pop out of the house, make some lovely new friends and have a proper laugh in a warm, supportive space. These sessions are completely free for anyone aged 65 or over, and yes—the tea, biscuits and good company are always included!

We are diving straight into August with a lovely afternoon making Scrappy fabric flowers, closely followed by crafting some wonderfully whimsical Pretty shell Jelly fish to catch those coastal vibes.

Mid-month, things get a little mysterious! We have two fantastic Mystery community activity sessions lined up, so you’ll have to come along to find out what creative tricks we have up our sleeves.

Finally, we are wrapping up the summer with a big old party. Our Celebration & Showcase Session at the end of August is open to everyone who has ever attended our Over 65s Club. Bring along your class projects, show off any crafts you’ve been working on at home or just come along to celebrate the wonderful friendships we’ve built together.

Sewing Machine Skills Workshop – Buttonhole

Wednesday, August 12th, 2026 | 7pm – 9pm

Is your gorgeous sewing machine currently doing a brilliant impression of an expensive paperweight? Does the mere mention of a “buttonhole” make you break out in a cold sweat? Fear not! We’re joining forces with the fabulous folks at Sea View Studios for a hands-on evening designed to turn red hot machine anxiety into cool, creative confidence.

First, you will conquer the ultimate sewing boss: creating neat, professional-looking buttonholes without the drama. Once you’ve mastered the art of the perfect slot, you will put your shiny new skills into practice by crafting a seriously stylish cushion cover to take home and show off on the sofa.

Expect plenty of laughs, patient guidance and as much time as you need to ask questions as you sew. Absolute beginners are incredibly welcome, and as always, we’ve got all the materials ready and waiting for you.

Price: £26 per person.

This is a brilliantly friendly and supportive space to experiment with a new technique, have a proper natter and simply unwind.
